Many are non profit drug and alcohol treatment facilities such as faith based organizations.
The organization provides a twelve-step oriented residential treatment for alcohol abuse for women, including women who have a drug addiction if alcoholism is the primary problem. Applicants must have 72 hours of sobriety before entering the program. The program cannot accommodate women who use wheelchairs. There are no geographic restrictions.
The average length of stay is 6 to 9 months; however, some clients may stay as long as one year. Former residents may return for non-residential support services. The residence can accommodate 10 women. Residents share rooms or sleep dormitory-style. They are expected to have a job within two weeks of their arrival and to work full-time during their stay. Residents assist with chores and prepare two of their daily meals; one meal per day plus food for the other meals is provided.
Residents develop and implement the program structure which is consistent with their own recovery plans. Women are expected to follow mandatory requirements which include attending five AA meetings per week and working closely with their AA sponsor, attending one education class per week, participating in recovery planning which includes written assignments, attending and participating in the House Council meetings and participating in house social and recreational activities.
